Lesson 4 | Apple and Space

30 min.

There are some laws to represent space. We will go through these laws here in a series of small exercises. Let’s get some experiences.

Step 1 | Watch the explanations of the use of space

Watch the video to learn about size and its spatial information. We have a short excursion into art history for a deeper understanding.

Two objects without overlapping and without shadows do not look real.
Just the fact that the object casts a shadow on the subsurface creates a spatial effect.
Of course, different sizes also create space. Of course, different sizes also create space. The small apple appears further back.
If objects do not overlap, the room is not displayed attractively.
Just one overlap creates a sense of space.
Such an arrangement of things, where the objects overlap, is always exciting.

Size – overlap and shadow

Just a difference in size is the first step to locate an object in space, and it is one of the most important things to do.
Second, the overlap is a good tool to indicate space.
You can even combine the two.

And you can use the horizon to indicate space, a horizon can be the edge of the table or the line, where earth touches the sky.

Step 2 | Watch the video - then sketch!

Inspired from beauty and art

After heaving had a closer look at art you are ready for the video and the exercise. Grab three apples or other fruits and try it out.
